(1) The 367th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology

From November 14 to 16, 2018, the 367th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology and jointly organized by Chinese Society of Forestry, Beijing Forestry University and Central South University of Forestry and Technology, was held in Changsha. More than 80 young experts and scholars from more than 20 units engaged in forest cultivation participated in the forum.

Li Guolei, Professor of Beijing Forestry University, Duan Aiguo Researcher of Forestry Research Institute of Chinese Academy of Forestry, Yang Lixue, Professor of Northeast Forestry University and Ying Yeqing, Professor of Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University jointly served as the executive chairman of the forum

At the forum, the in-depth discussion was made around the theme of “accurate seedling quality improvement and stand regeneration theory and technology” and from the prospective of accurate seedling quality improvement, timber forest cultivation theory and technology, root system function and shape, and soil microbial ecology.

(2) The 319th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology

From October 15 to 17, 2017, the 319th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology and jointly organized by Chinese Society of Forestry and Central South University of Forestry and Technology, was held in Changsha. More than 90 young experts and scholars from nearly 20 units engaged in biomass energy and wood science and technology participated in the forum.

Yu Yan, Researcher of International Center for Bamboo and Rattan, Cao Jinzhen, Professor of Beijing Forestry University, Yu Haipeng, Professor of Northeast Forestry University, Qing Yan, Young Elite Scientist of China Association for Science and Technology and Associate Professor of Central South University of Forestry and Technology jointly served as the executive chairman of the forum; Wu Yiqiang, Distinguished Professor of Chang Jiang Scholars Program and Vice President of Central South University of Forestry and Technology, attended the forum and provided the full process guidance.

At the forum, the in-depth discussion was made around the theme of “basic research promoting efficient utilization and innovation of biomass” from the prospective of the structure and performance of biomass cell wall, functional improvement of materials, bio-based nano materials, bio-based green composite materials, and biomass energy and green chemicals.

(3) The 304th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology

From September 28 to 30, 2016, the 304th Young Scientists Forum of China Association for Science and Technology, sponsored by China Association for Science and Technology and jointly organized by Chinese Society of Forestry, Institute of Subtropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry and Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University, was held in Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University. More than 230 young experts and scholars in forest genetics and breeding from 50 units participated in the forum.

Wang Yangdong, Researcher of Institute of Subtropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Forestry, Wang Junhui, Researcher of State Key Laboratory of Tree Genetics and Breeding, Zhang Deqiang, Professor of Beijing Forestry University and Huang Huahong, Professor of Zhejiang Agriculture and Forestry University jointly served as the executive chairman of the forum. With the theme of “scientific and technological innovation of forest tree genetics and breeding”, the forum focused on four topics, including forest genomics, forest stress-resistance physiology, forest development physiology and forest conventional breeding.

The representatives strongly suggested that the state should consider the characteristics of long growing period, perennial and complex characters of forest trees, and the breeding cycle as long as ten years or even decades, as well as the non-profit nature of forest tree breeding. In the important science and technology program, the state should deploy forest breeding research plans from a long-term perspective, allocate special funds, and provide long-term rolling support for the basic research on exploration of forest germplasm resources, the cultivation of new forest tree varieties, forest genomics and the construction of improved tree variety base, which will be conducive to the long-term research of young forest tree breeding experts, the continuation of forest tree breeding work, and the construction of forest breeding base and the conservation of germplasm resources.
