(1) The 2019 Forest-grown Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Development Symposium was held by the Chinese Society of Forestry
From December 6 to 8, 2019, “Seeking the Source of Traditional Chinese Medicine - 2019 Traditional Chinese Medicine Agriculture, Non-timber Forest-based Economy Industry Development Strategy Summit and High-quality Medicinal Material Production and Sales Docking Conference” (hereinafter referred to as the “Conference”) was held in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province. The Conference was co-organized by the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chinese Society of Forestry, China Pharmaceutical Culture Society, China National Traditional Chinese Medicine Co., Ltd. and other units, with the theme of “Industry Consolidation for Common Development, Seeking the Source of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Enter Jiangxi”. More than 700 people, including representatives of well-known enterprises in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine planting and processing, as well as well-known experts and scholars in the field of traditional Chinese medicine research, participated in the Conference.
In his speech at the Conference, Secretary General Chen Xingliang pointed out that it was required to adhere to the scientific concept of the in-depth integrated development of the TCM industry and the forest and grass industry. First, continue to pursue scientific and technological innovation; second, pursue integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries; third, stick to combination of medical and health care; fourth, adhere to ecological management. This conference co-organized by China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and other institutions is aimed to promote the integration of traditional Chinese medicine industry and the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, boost the development of non-timber forest-based economy, and contribute to local economic and social development and poverty alleviation by building a comprehensive communication platform for politics-industry-university-research combination in the field of traditional Chinese medicine.
During the Conference, the Chinese Society of Forestry also held the 2019 Forest-grown Traditional Chinese Medicine Industry Development Symposium which was attended by more than 170 representatives in the fields of planting, production, R&D and processing of forest-grown traditional Chinese medicine from more than 20 provinces in China.
Professor Wu Hong, Inspector of Zhejiang Forestry Administration, Researcher Jin Zhinong, President of Nanchang Institute of Technology, Changjiang Scholar and Professor Fu Yujie of Northeast Forestry University, Professor Guo Yuhai, Director of Traditional Chinese Medicinal Materials Research Center of China Agricultural University, Professor Fang Shengzuo, Director of Science and Technology Department of Nanjing Forestry University and Chairman Xiong Shangsi of Jiangxi Xinlong Agricultural Development Co., Ltd. gave special reports and were warmly welcomed by the participants.
At the symposium, the experts put forward the proposal of “founding a Professional Committee of Forest-grown Traditional Chinese Medicine of the Chinese Society of Forestry, establishing an academic exchange platform in the field of forest-grown traditional Chinese medicine, and promoting the development of forest-grown traditional Chinese medicine industry”, which was warmly received by the participants.
(2) The Seventh China (Tancheng) Ginkgo Festival was held in Tancheng County, Shandong
From November 6 to 8, the Seventh China (Tancheng) Ginkgo Festival was held in Tancheng County, Shandong. This Ginkgo Festival was organized by the Chinese Society of Forestry, and undertaken by the Chinese Society of Forestry Ginkgo Branch, the Linyi Forestry Administration, the CPC Tancheng County Committee, and the Tancheng County People’s Government.
Ma Guangren, Deputy President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, pointed out in his speech that in recent years, the ginkgo industry has developed rapidly in China. At present, the ginkgo planting area exceeds 6 million mu in China, and the output value of the ginkgo industry has reached more than RMB 30 billion. The ginkgo industry plays a more prominent role in adjusting regional industrial structure, building beautiful China and promoting rural revitalization. The theme of this session of Ginkgo Festival is “Integrated Development of Ginkgo Industry”. To promote the integrated development of the ginkgo industry, it is required to adhere to Xi Jinping’s thought of ecological civilization, implement the concept of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, deepen the supply-side structural reform, vigorously cultivate and rationally use ginkgo resources, and promote the sustainable management of ginkgo resources and the high-quality development of the ginkgo industry. It is necessary to adhere to the integrated development of scientific and technological innovation and the ginkgo industry, and promote the widespread application of new technologies and new achievements; it is necessary adhere to the integrated development of cultural driving force and the ginkgo industry, vigorously promote the ginkgo culture, and to build beautiful China; it is required to adhere to the integrated development of the primary, secondary and tertiary industries, and jointly establish a high-quality ginkgo industry with the promotion of the primary industry, the driving of the second industry, and the linkage of the tertiary industry, so as to enhance the overall influence and competitiveness of the ginkgo industry.
This session of Ginkgo Festival was attended by more than 400 people, including well-known experts in the ginkgo field, members of the Ginkgo Branch, heads of large domestic ginkgo processing enterprises, corporate merchants, leaders and representatives of the main production areas of ginkgo and other participants. This session of Ginkgo Festival was rich in content, including Ginkgo Health Industry Summit Forum, Ginkgo Product Exhibition Trade Fair, Ginkgo Culture Exhibition, Economic and Trade Fair, and other theme activities. It is a grand event to make acquaintances and promote business.
Since its founding in 2009, the China Gingko Festival has been held for 10 consecutive years, 7 sessions of which were held in main ginkgo production areas in China. The China Ginkgo Festival has become the largest and most influential comprehensive exchange platform for industry, education and research in China’s ginkgo field. It is also the only national festival in China’s ginkgo field. The China Ginkgo Festival has played an important role in promoting the development of the ginkgo industry in the main production areas in China.
(3) The 3rd International Ginkgo Summit was held in Pizhou, Jiangsu
On November 5, 2019, the 3rd International Ginkgo Summit was held by the Chinese Society of Forestry in Pizhou, Jiangsu. More than 180 experts and scholars from home and abroad and international students in the scientific research, production, management and other fields of ginkgo participated in the summit.
Ma Guangren, Deputy President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, hoped that the participating experts and representatives would conduct wide exchanges and discussions and brainstorming on the theme and discussion content of this summit, and provide suggestions for the development and growth of the ginkgo industry. Scientific research units should accelerate product innovation and technological innovation, and foster new drivers of growth, so as to achieve a new leap forward in development.
The opening ceremony marked the founding of the Chinese Society of Forestry Ginkgo Science and Technology Service Station and the Ginkgo Leaf Research Center in Pizhou.
On the summit, Cai Denggu, the former Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry, Professor Cheng Shuiyuan, Deputy Secretary of CPC of Wuhan Polytechnic University, Professor Petr Smarda of the Masaryk University in the Czech Republic, and Professor Wang Yiqiang of the Central South University of Forestry and Technology were invited to make special reports on the summit theme of “Technology-driven Industry Breakthrough”. Experts conducted in-depth exchanges on the development and utilization of ginkgo landscape value, medicinal value, economic value and overall value, and provided suggestions and guidance for the development of the ginkgo industry at home and abroad.
(4) The 2018 Forest China Public Welfare Activities were launched
On June 5, the 47th World Environment Day, co-organized by the Chinese Society of Forestry, the China Guanghua Foundation, and the China Wildlife Conservation Association, and specially supported by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration and the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the 2018 Forest China Public Welfare Activities were officially launched in Beijing Xishan National Forest Park. Zhang Yongli, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director General of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Fu Zhenbang, Secretary of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Youth League, Zhao Shucong, Deputy Director of the National Greening Committee and President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, Hou Baosen, Secretary of CPC Committee and President of the China Guanghua Foundation, Chen Xingliang, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Society of Forestry, Li Qingwen, Vice President and Secretary General of China Wildlife Conservation Association, and other leaders of the organizing and supporting units attended the event. More than 100 news media such as Guangming Daily, Green Times, www.xinhuanet.com, people.cn, Sina and Sohu, and representatives selected for “2017 Forest Culture Town” participated in the launching ceremony.
Zhang Yongli, Deputy Director General of the State Forestry Administration, said in his speech that forests were the subject of terrestrial ecosystems, the most indispensable primary element of beautiful China, and the basic task of building ecological civilization. It was hoped that “Forest China Public Welfare Activities” would be held in innovate forms and with enriched connotations and tapped potentials. It is necessary to strive to hold theme activities, tell ecological stories, inherit and prosper forest culture, promote green development, enhance public awareness of ecological civilization, and guide the whole society to make more contributions to the building of beautiful China!
At the event, Huang Huan, the artist representative of “painting beautiful homes”, and two children displayed and interpreted their paintings, expressing their good wishes to protect nature and environment together.
Zhao Shengli, Deputy Secretary-General of China Wildlife Conservation Association, made a comprehensive summary of the “2017 Forest China Public Welfare Activities” and introduced the direction of work in 2018 on behalf of the Forest China Organizing Committee. Liu Hesheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Forestry, announced the selection results and list of “2017 Forest China·Discover Forest Culture Town”. Zhang Yongli, member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy Director General of the National Forestry and Grassland Administration, Fu Zhenbang, Secretary of the Central Secretariat of the Communist Youth League, Zhao Shucong, Deputy Director of the National Greening Committee and President of the Chinese Society of Forestry, and other leaders awarded medals and certificates to units that were selected for the 2017 Forest China Forest Culture Town, and jointly launched the “2018 Forest China Public Welfare Activities”.
The “Forest China” public welfare platform was jointly established by the Chinese Society of Forestry, Guangming Daily, the China Guanghua Foundation, the China Wildlife Conservation Association and other units. Since 2014, it has carried out “finding ecological heroes” and “discovering forest culture towns”, “painting beautiful homes”, “31 forests” and other activities in diversified forms. So far, 30 forest culture towns have been selected across the country.
(5) The 2018 Forum on Innovation and Development of Modern Forest Growers was held in Nanning, Guangxi
From November 16 to 17, 2018, the 2018 Forum on Innovation and Development of Modern Forest Growers was held in Nanning, Guangxi. This forum was co-sponsored by the Chinese Society of Forestry and the Guangxi Forest Growers Association, and co-organized by Stora Enso (Guangxi) Forestry Co., Ltd. The forum was themed by “Reform, Innovation and Cultivation of New Drivers for the Development of Plantation Industry”. More than 160 experts and representatives of entrepreneurs in the fields of plantation industry policy and management attended the forum.
At the opening ceremony, Liu Hesheng, Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Society of Forestry, awarded the plaque to the Guangxi Forest Growers Association as the strategic partner. FSC China representative Ma Lichao signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Huang Yu, Executive Deputy Secretary-General of Guangxi Forest Growers Association, and awarded the FSC with the plaque of “Capacity Building Project Base for Forest Growers and Small Farmers”.
Professor Zhang Hongxiao, Deputy Dean of the College of Economics and Management, Nanjing Forestry University, Researcher Ju Hongbo, former director of the Chinese Academy of Forestry Science and Information Institute, Researcher Yan Xulin, a well-known domestic branding expert, FSC China representative Ma Lichao, Deng Yunfeng, Managing Director of Stora Enso (Guangxi) Forestry Co., Ltd. and other experts gave special reports on “Institutional Path for the Protection of Management Rights of Planted Forests”, “Transformation and Upgrade of Internet+ Forestry Ecological Industry”, “How Brands Lead Transformation”, “Interpretation of FSC China Forest Management Standards” and “Technological Innovation and Sustainable Development of Forestry”.
On the afternoon of November 17, the leaders of the forest growers had face-to-face meeting with the representatives of participants. Six representatives of entrepreneurs exchanged their views with the participants on topics such as sustainable management of forest growers, technological innovation and economic model innovation, and the modernization and mechanization of forestry equipment.
